RAAF Mitchell Bomber A47-6 of Number 2 Squadron crashed into the sea whilst on a Search and Rescue mission for 2SQN Mitchell A47-12 that had crashed on the beach on Peron Island. The only casualties were Warrant Officer Gordon Sydney James King 4795 & Flight Lieutenant (Chaplain) The Reverend Hilford Charles Easton 423197 who were on board A47-6 to assist in the search.
