Son of Mr and Mrs C PREISS of Burra, SA.  Educated at Burra he played football and cricket and was President of and played for the Tramways Club for several years.  He took part in athletic races including interstate.  Married and residing at 42 King William Street, Kent Town, Frank was an employee of the Metropolitan Tramways Trust as a motorman for 16 years until he left and joined the AIF in August 1940.  Trained at Wayville he was drafted to Alice Springs and left Australia around April 1941 for Malaya.
