Albert HAMLYN

Albert Hamlyn joined the 12/10th battalion on 29th July 1915 in Adelaide. No 3342. Embarked 2nd Dec 1915, . Allotted to proceed to 20th Btn Aerodrome Camp 17 Mar 1916. Embarked Alexandria 7 Jun 1916 to join B.E.F. Disembarked at Marseille 14 June 1916. He served in Etaples France, with the 50th Infantry Battalion and 4th Aust Div Base Depot, from 23 July 1916. Transferred to 1st Anzac Hdqtrs 24 Mar 1917. Leave to UK 23 Feb 1918 to 9 Mar 1918. Detached from AC Hdqtrs to 5th Army Hdqtrs 5 July 1918. Leave to England 9 Dec 1918 to 23 Dec 1918.
Returning to Australia on the 'Persic' in 27 Aug 1919. Disembarked 19 Oct 1919. In Oct of 1917 his father Theo Hamlyn, then of Curramulka, was in touch with the Red Cross, having not heard from Bert for some time, and was worried. Discharged in the 4th MD Adelaide 19 Oct 1919. Was A.W.O.L a number of times over the years and had been lucky enough to escape injury.
