William enlisted with his brothers, Henry, James ,Edward, Sydney and nephew Harrison(son of Henry) and travelled to France via Egypt in 1916.

5th September 1917- Sick while on leave in UK. Admitted to District Hospital, Burford.
7th January 1918 Rejoined 2nd Machine Gun Battalion near Camiers, France.
28th February 1919 Died from Bronchopneumonia (Spanish Flu)
