John Herbert Watkins (Service Number S72114) was born 4th September 1895 in London England. He married 20 year old Ellen on 2nd August 1919 in his hometown of Port Pirie South Australia when he was 24 years. They had two children.

According to Johns Military Mobilization Attestation Form, he had previously served 5 years in the Australian Imperial Forces Royal Field Artillery, before being discharged due to casualty. When he was 46 years old he rejoined The Australian Military Forces on 16th April 1942 and was assigned to 6th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps. On 29th October 1942 he was appointed to Lance Corporal and on 9th December 1942 was appointed to Corporal. According to his Military Service and Casualty Form John discharged on 31st October 1944, at own request. John died on 1st July 1965 aged 70 years and is buried at Port Pirie Cemetery South Australia.
