The 30th name inscribed is Private Matthew Moyle.

On the 15th October 1961, Private Matthew Moyle, 35th Battalion (Reg No-1188), miner from School Hill, Minmi, New South Wales and Warners Bay?, N.S.W., died at Warners Bay, N.S.W., age 70 years 7 months, and his ashes have been interred at Newcastle Memorial Park, N.S.W., Loggia Court 1 T/128, date unknown.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 11th March 1891 to John Thomas, died 7.8.1920, School Hill, Minmi, N.S.W., age 63, buried at Minmi Cemetery, Left Hand Side, Section 29, Plot 084, and Margaret (Maggie) Ann Moyle, died 21.5.1941, Charles Street, Abermain, N.S.W., age 79, 20 years a widow, mother of 10 or 12?, sleeping at Minmi Cemetery, Left Hand Side, Section 29, Plot 084; husband of Caroline Laura Moyle nee Lester, married 1919, Rockdale, N.S.W., died 18.7.1961, Warners Bay, N.S.W., age 65, ashes interred Newcastle Memorial Park, N.S.W., Loggia Court 1 T/129, date unknown.

Matthew enlisted on the 8th January 1916, age 24 years 10 months, at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A24 Benalla on the 1st May 1916.

Disembarked Plymouth, England 9.7.1916.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Southampton, England 21.11.1916.

Admitted to hospital 6.12.1916 (gastritis & scabies), 10.6.1917 (debility not stated).

Wounded in action - 12.10.1917 (GSW right thigh, 1st Battle of Passchendaele), 4.4.1918 (GSW or shell wound left hand, severe).

Granted leave to England from 15.1.1918 to 29.1.1918.

Invalided to England 10.4.1918.

Commenced return to Australia 20.11.1918.

Matthew arrived home invalided on the 5th January 1919, not being discharged until the 19th January 1920.

Not officially commemorated.

I would like to see poppies placed at Matthew’s plaque in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
