Memorialised at Sandgate Cemetery.

105 years ago today, on the 8th August 1918, Private William Weston, 35th Battalion (Reg No-581), miner from Victoria Street, Teralba, New South Wales, was Killed in Action at Vaire Wood, France, Battle of Amiens. Cause of death unknown.

No Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File.
Born at Stockton, New South Wales on the 20th July 1890 to Mrs. Martha Ann Dudley nee Weston (died 3.11.1895, Sydney, N.S.W., age?, nothing located on Trove regarding death, funeral, etc). Adopted son of Charles W (died 23.6.1918, Teralba, N.S.W., age 82) of Victoria Street, Teralba, N.S.W. and Hannah Weston nee Bailey (died 19.4.1905, Teralba, N.S.W., age 64) of Victoria Street, Teralba, N.S.W., William enlisted on the 27th November 1915 at Newcastle, N.S.W.


Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A24 Benalla on the 1st May 1916.
Admitted to hospital 17.12.1916 (torticollis - common phenomenon when your neck muscles spasm and your neck twists to the side), 4.6.1917 (shell shock), 17.4.1918 (not stated).

William is resting at Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, France. Plot VII Row I Grave 3.

Place of Association – Teralba, New South Wales, Australia.

Mr. Weston’s name has been inscribed on the Teralba Soldiers' Memorial, Teralba Public School Roll of Honour, Book of Gold and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised gravesite of the Weston family in remembrance of William’s service and supreme sacrifice for God, King & Country. ANGLICAN 1-44. 5.
