LESLIE Peter William MB BS DTM&H

1920 - unknown

Peter William Leslie was born in Essendon, VIC, on 9th December 1920. He was the son of Leslie Cecil Leslie and Elsie Dora Tonkin, nee Millar.  His father had served in World War 1 as an Engineer Officer. The family moved to Glenelg, SA, and Leslie was educated at St Peter’s College and studied medicine at the University of Adelaide, graduating in 1943. He married Margaret Fidock Frith, a nurse, on 1st May 1944.  She was the elder of the two daughters of Henry Jones Frith and Annie Louisa, nee Bell of Crystal Brook.

Leslie had joined the CMF in 1939 and was placed on the AAMC Reserve of Officers on 20th March 1944. At that time, he gave his father as his next of kin. He commenced full-time duty on 12th February 1945 and enlisted in 2/AIF one month later, on 17th March 1945, at Wayville, SA.  He now named his wife, Margaret, as his next of kin and they were living at 15 Seawall, Glenelg. From 13th May 1945 to 27th May 1945 he undertook a course in hygiene. He was allotted to 107 AGH for regimental duties on 6th July 1945 and then detached to 55 ACH on 12th July 1945. He was hospitalised in 107 AGH from 30th August to 3rd December. And again, from 19th September to 24th September 1945. Leslie transferred to SA LoC area on 22nd March 1946, and his appointment was terminated on 27th March 1946, and he was placed on the Reserve of Officers.

After his discharge, he qualified for his Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Health in 1957. Leslie and his wife had three children, a son and two daughters and they moved to Victoria after the war. His wife Margaret died on 6th September 1975. No further information on Peter William Leslie’s life could be found; his death is unknown.
