ANDERSON Jack Sidney MB BS
1919 –2003
Jack Sidney Anderson, was born on 19th July 1919, in Adelaide SA. He was the son of Sidney Claude Anderson and Dora Emilie Anderson, nee Maerschel. His brother was Max Kimberly Anderson, who also served in WW2. Anderson was educated at Unley High School, he studied medicine at the University of Adelaide and graduated in 1944. He was awarded a bursary of 13 guineas in his second year by the Royal Society of St George. His father had died in 1938 before he went to University.
Anderson enlisted in the CMF in February 1940 while he was still a medical student at the University of Adelaide. He gave his mother, Dora Emilie Anderson of Lochwinnoch Road, Torrens Park, as his next of kin. He was allotted to 105 AMH and continued with his medical course. He enlisted in the 2/AIF, on 15th July 1945, at the completion his degree, again giving his mother as his next of kin. He remained with 105 AMH until he was sent to 3 MD, where he was attached to the Inter-Service Medical Wing 3MD LofC area, land forces until February 1946. He returned to SA as an MO to 121 AGH and was allotted for duty with the Demob centre in May 1946. Remaining in South Australia, he then was posted to 89 ACH from 24th May 1945 until his appointed was terminated on 30th October 1946.
Anderson remained in SA after WW2, as a general practitioner, and lived in Allenby Gardens. He was a member of the AMA. He died on 2nd November 2003 at Western Community Hospital and is interred at Centennial Park.
