Born in Bishopsteignton in the September Quarter of 1887. Died 6 June 1917 aged 29.
Son of Robert James and Eliza Back (née Yeoman); his brother, Petty Officer Stoker Charles Back, Service Number K/6263(Dev), aged 27,was also a casualty of the Great War- he died 07/01/1920 whilst serving in the Royal Navy, H.M.S. "Vivid."
