LESLIE CLARENCE HIRTH who died of pneumonic influenza on 17th May 1919 was the son of Mr. D. Hirth of Dimboola. He was born in 1898 and was at the School in 1915. He enlisted in February 1916 and after going into Bendigo Camp on 13th March 1916 embarked as Corporal in reinforcements for the 38th Battalion on 25th September 1916 He arrived in England on the 11th November and was
on duty in Camps at Larks Hill, Salisbury Plain and Blackpool.

He arrived in France at the end of September 1917 and took part in operations against Passchendaele Ridge, and on 12th October became a casualty from shell shock. He returned to Australia on 16th April 1918 and was discharged in August of the same year medically unfit.

He never recovered his health, and still suffering with a weak
heart from shell shock became a victim to the pneumonic influenza epidemic.
