William David Patterson was born on 25 August, 1890, in Beaufort, Victoria, Australia. He was married to Dorothy Patterson who was his nominated next of kin. Before the serving in the Australian Military Forces Patterson was a motor driver and salesman. He served in World War II for the Australian Military army from the 22 January, 1940 to the 1 October, 1945 with the service number of S213112. Patterson is significant for his contribution and involvement for Australia in WWII.
William David Patterson’s involvement in the Australian Military Forces started on 22nd of January 1940 when he was enlisted in Keswick, South Australia. On the 29th of February 1940, he was promoted to Corporal. On the same day of his promotion to Corporal, Patterson was transferred to the recruiting depot located on North Terrace in Adelaide..
On the 20th of April 1940, he was reverted from Sergeant to Group III Clerk. On the 20th of June 1941, Patterson was transferred from Recruiting Staffs to the Regimental Depot District (R.D.D). From 22nd to 25th of August 1941, he was given special leave. On the 16th of March 1942, Patterson was provided 1500 hours (up until the 19th of March 1942 of sick leave. He was promoted to Acting Sergeant 28th July 1942
On the 12th of October 1942, he was transferred to the 3rd Brigade Area (3rd Bde. Area) and transferred again on the 2nd of November 1942 to the Northern Territory Records Office in Wayville (N.T Records Office, Wayville). On the 13th of June 1944, Patterson was admitted into the Sick Parlour. In September 1944, he was transferred from the 2nd Australian Imperial Force (2 A.I.F) to the 1st Australian Imperial Force (1 A.I.F). Patterson was then restored to the 12th Australian Imperial Force (12 A.I.F) in 1944. His service to the Australia Military Force ended on the 1st of October 1945 when he was discharged from AHQ 27 BDE 2 COY/AASC.
William David Patterson died on 20 September, 1947 at 57 years old from heart disease. He is burried at Adelaide (Centennial Park) Cemetery.
