Alfred Metcalf CAPPER was born c.1870 in Opotiki, Auckland, New Zealand

His parents were Samuel CAPPER & Mary Jane SMITh

He married Rose MERRIMAN in New Zealand in 1889 and had two daughters, Caroline Ada & Maud.

Alfred came to Australia and was living in Randwick, Sydney when he enlisted in Liverpool, NSW on 8th August, 1915 and embarked with the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 11th reinforcements on the ship HMAT Euripides from Sydney on 2nd November, 1915

He was transferred to the 53rd Infantry Battalion on 16th February, 1916

He was wounded in action on 19th February, 1916 with gun shot wounds to his legs and transferred to the No. 2 Casualty Clearing Station where he died from his wounds on 25th July, 1916

He is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension in France, Plot II, Row F, Grave 103
