Eric Weir story
My father Eric was very proud of his service in the army. He served as a driver transporting munitions from near Jamestown SA to Darwin. He always referred to his rank as 'driver' rather than 'private'. His twin brother Allan Vincent Weir served in the AIF from 1939 to 1946 and was front line fighter on the Kokoda Track being injured (minor) in that campaign at Buna Gona in late 1942. Both Allan and Eric lived past 92 years of age and where very dear to one another although separated by distance - Eric in Albany, southern WA and Allan in Mt Gambier SA. Eric was very respected and loved throughout his life and settled on a War Service farm in the Gairdner River district in 1961, naming the farm 'Content'. Ill health forced his relocation - with wife Anne and children Catherine and Ian, to Albany in 1976 where Eric became a very successful (modest) leather worker.
He passed away aged 93 on the 23rd Sept 2015 in Albany.
