Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Charles Clayton Claude Morris (Service No:S112530) served in the ACMF with 1 and 3 Infantry Training Battalions from 16 December 1941 to 3 January 1944, when he was Discharged as Medically Unfit. Private Morris was one of four brothers and numeroeus cousins who served in WWII.

Born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1912, Claude was second of eight children of Allan Clayton Morris (b1880 in Pichi Richi via Quorn, South Australia) and Caroline Charlotte Fidge (b1885 in Wandearaht, South Australia). Allan was a Railways Labourer in Keith when, in 1906 in Coonalpyn via Wellington, he and Caroline married. Allan worked for the SAGR as a Labourer and Railway Guard, and the family lived at Murray Bridge, Caltowie and Ki Ki before settling in Adelaide. Following Caroline's death in 1950, Allan remarried.

Claude worked in Adelaide as a Bootmaker and Labourer, and had numerous brushes with the Law. In 1934 in Adelaide he married his first wife Mary Theresa Hindes (b1916 in Wellington, South Australia) and in 1938 underwent a bigamous marriage with her best friend Catherine (Kate) Ellen Lilywhite (b1914 in Snowtown, South Australia). Claude and Kate lived in Adelaide, where Claude was a Labourer, until the late 1950s when he deserted her and later married Gloria Maureen Dervaney (b1930 in Adelaide, South Australia). Claude and Gloria settled in Adelaide, where Claude died in 1972 and Gloria in 1997.
