Aubrey served as an Ambulance driver in Darwin before being medically discharged. He lost an eye as a result of an insect bite during his service. He was married to Olive Elizabeth Braddock on 24/06/1950 and was survived by 4 children, John Westley, Peter Charles, Susan Jay and Bronwyn Elizabeth.
