Son of Robert T. Orr and Rachel Orr of Waverley Street, Waverley, NSW.

Prior to enlisting Basil was a member of the Waverley Rifle Club.

Commenced return to Australia on 31 July 1918 aboard HT Malta disembarking on 29 September 1918

During 1924c Basil married Vera M. Bowron in Waverley, NSW
