The Chronicle (Adelaide) of 21 September,1918 announced that, “On September 7, a public social was tended in the Kersbrook Institute to Private Leslie Levett…being the 4th son to enlist. A wristlet watch from the residents and a parcel of mittens from the Red Cross were handed to the guest.”
Leslie trained with A Coy 2nd Depot, then transferred to the 6th General Service Regiment. He embarked HMAT A36 Boonah from Adelaide on 22 October 1918. Due to the “Cessation of Hostilities” on 11 November, the troopship Boonah was recalled in December. Leslie was in quarantine prior to embarkation. Leslie was discharged on 4 February 1919.
After he came home, Leslie went up the River Murray to Loxton and worked as a wood carter for the pumps that supported the building of the barrages. When his father died in 1923, he returned to Kersbrook to take up farming. He later purchased land in Kersbrook and established and ran an earth moving business which is now operated by a grandson.1.
During World War Two Les served in the 2nd Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps from 10 April 1942 to 2 October 1945.3.
Leslie was awarded the British War Medal for World War One and War Medal 1939-45 and Australia Service Medal for World War Two.



Leslie Levitt died at the age of 77, on 15 June, 1975 and was buried at Kersbrook Cemetery.
