Died on this date - 22nd December.......CSM Frank Mathers was born at at Fulham, London, England in 1883. He joined the Royal Navy on 28th January, 1898. He served for 14 years before being invalided out & had attained the rank of Leading Seaman.

Frank Mathers joined the Australian Imperial Force on 26th August, 1914 as a 33 year old Machine Driver from Catherine Hill Bay, NSW. He embarked on 5th April, 1915 from Alexandria to join Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in the Gallipoli Campaign. He was promoted to Corporal on 22nd June, 1915 & transferred to Hospital at Cairo on 6th August, 1915.

Corporal Mathers was transferred to 14th Machine Gun Comany on 26th March, 1916 then promoted to C.S.M. (Company Sergeant Major) from 17th April, 1916.

Company Sergeant Major Frank Mathers arrived in France on 25th June, 1916. He was hospitalised in August, 1916 & invalided to England. He recovered & was sent on furlough then marched in to Machine Gun Training Depot at Grantham, Lincolnshire on 23rd November, 1916.

CSM Mathers was admitted to Belton Hospital, Grantham on 19th December, 1916 & died at 8.50 am on 22nd December, 1916 from Perforation of Duodenum. He was buried in Grantham Cemetery, Grantham, Lincolnshire, England.
