Julius Paul Kesting was born on 25 March 1905 in Hyde Park South Australia.
His father, Paul Julius Kesting, was born on 29 August 1876 in Dortmund, Westfalen, Germany, and arrived in South Australia in 1899 aboard the SS Stuttgart; he died on 24 September 1957 in Brighton, South Australia.
His mother, BEatrice Haidie Yeates, was born on 5 Novemebr 1880 in Eastwood, South Australia, and died on 25 October 1961 in Adelaide, South Australia.
Julius Paul Kesting was the eldest 7 children, the others being Louis John (1905-1978), Beatrice Elisabeth (1907-1932), Ernest Arthur (1909-1973), Norman Gustav (1910-1976), Mathiloda Wilhemina (1912-1985) and Theodore (1914-1976).
