ANDERSON Max Kimberley MB BS

1920-1980

Max Kimberly Anderson was born on 19th November 1920, in Birdwood, SA.   He was the son of Sidney Claude Anderson and Dora Emilie, nee Maerschel, of Lochivinnoch Road, Torrens Park, SA.  His brother was Sidney Claude Anderson. Anderson was educated at Unley High School, where he became Dux in 1935, gaining a scholarship to Adelaide High School.  He studied medicine at the University of Adelaide, graduating in 1944.

Anderson first enlisted as a private soldier in the CMF, on 8th January 1941 while he was a 2nd-year medical student and was posted to 6th Cavalry Field Ambulance. He decided to join the RAN and after completion of his degree was appointed surgeon lieutenant on 31st August 1944. He was not mobilised, and his appointment was terminated on 25th October 1946.

Following the war, Anderson moved to Western Australia and took a position as Deputy Superintendent of Fremantle Hospital.  He gave evidence in court after a woman, who had been admitted to Fremantle Hospital, died from a septic miscarriage, following an illegal abortion. He married Yvonne Joan Prisk in the 1950s. She was the daughter of Thomas Clarence Prisk, and Jessie Gladys Corlin, nee Grant of Moonta, SA. Anderson and his wife were living at 441 Canning Highway, Melville, WA, in 1958. Max Kimberly Anderson died in Cottesloe, WA, in 1980 at the age of 59 years, survived by his wife Yvonne and their two children a son and a daughter.
