Son of Mr and Mrs W.P. CUNNINGHAM, of Brisbane, Qld.  Educated in Brisbane, Cecil played Rugby for Queensland for several season and was fond of swimming.  Married and with one child, he was residing at 46 Magill Road, Norwood when he joined the AIF in February 1942, and after 9 months' service he was discharged on account of sickness.  Several months later he joined the AMF and worked as a brushmaker and later on on his own account he rejoined the AIF.
