Biography contributed by Saint Ignatius' College

George Raiment Weeks worked as a blacksmith and was an apprentice to H.B McKay for 5 years. He started his apprenticeship when he was 21 years old. He was also married before he departed for war, and he had one child. His wife’s name was Margaret Elen weeks and she lived at Catherine Street, Kensington, South Australia.

On the 27th of October in 1915, Weeks was enlisted in the 10th Infantry Battalion. He was only 26 and a half years old when he was embarked to go to war. On the 11th of November Weeks was transferred to the 50th Infantry Battalion as a Corporal. On an unknown date, Weeks was wounded on the 50th Infantry Battalion. The 50th Infantry Battalion was also the last unit that Weeks served in. The 50th Battalion was created in Egypt during the “doubling of the AIF” to increase the power that the other Battalions had. They fought in their first major battle in France during the 13th and 15th of August 1918 and they suffered immensely. Many people died and even more were wounded. This was the last battle that Weeks fought in since he got wounded (presumably very serious) and was unable to continue his services.
