Biography contributed by Adelaide Botanic High School

Frederick Newman Carter enlisted in World War One on the 24th March 1916 two months after his 21st birthday. He was born in Plympton, South Australia but was raised in Glandore, South Australia. He was single at the time of enlistment making his mother Mary Carter the next of kin. He arrived back to Australia nearly three years later on the 28th Febuary 1919. During the war he was repeatedly in trouble for going Absent Without Leave and was twice court martialled.
