Successful Horseman
My Grandfather Lionel Shepard was a successful jockey and trainer over many years.
He operated his small stable of horses out of his residence that housed stables in Curzon St Camden Park.
In 1927 he was part of history at the Oakbank Easter Carnival.
He and his mount, Mount Cooper dead heated with a horse call Unohoo in the 1927 Great Eastern Steeple Chase over the marathon journey of 4950 metres
To this day, it still remains the only dead heat in this race.
