Robert Taylor was the son of William and Marjorie Taylor, of Wallsend, New South Wales. He was born and raised in Wallsend, New South Wales and his father died there during 1913.

Robert’s younger and only brother, 2851 Pte. Albert Taylor 4th Battalion AIF was killed in action at Pozieres, 24 July 1916, aged 20.

At the time of his enlistment Robert was working at Neath Colliery, west of Newcastle.

Robert Taylor was seen to be killed by a shell when the 34th Battalion was advancing on a farm near Messines. He was buried in Mud Corner British Cemetery, along with 30 other identified Australian soldiers.
