Son of Emile Gustave Ulm and Ada Emma Ulm nee Greenland of 'Leona', Keston Avenue, Mosman, NSW.

Brother of Charles Thomas Phillippe Ulm, also known as Charles Jackson who returned to Australia on 25 February 1919 having served with the 45th Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 5 April 1919 aboard HT Armagh disembarking on 20 May 1919
