Trooper Arthur Thomas Smith (Service No:S9967) enlisted in the ACMF on 1 May 1941 with 18 Light Horse (MG) Regiment. Trooper Smith served with 9 and 26 Motor Regiments, and was with 1 Training Battalion AAOC at Discharge on 24 May 1945.

Arthur was born in Adelaide, South Australia on 1907, youngest of four children of Joseph Fox Smith (b1855 in Dublin, Ireland) and Mary Emma Cook (b1870 in Magill, South Australia. Joseph and Mary married in 1902 in Adelaide, where they settled and raised their family and Joseph worked as a Blacksmith. Mary died in 1917.

Arthur worked as a Warehouseman and Storeman in Adelaide before enlisting in the Army, and in 1943 married Anne (Annie) Tattersall Newman (b1918 in Highgate, South Australia) - Annie was a Packer in Edwardstown. Arthur and Annie settled in Adelaide, where Arthur worked as a Warehouseman and Labourer.
