Son of Alfred James Drury and Anna May (nee Foster) Drury; brother of Sydney William Drury, Mona Lorraine Drury. Husband of Shirley Patricia Drury and father of Jeanette Rodda, nee Drury

Lionel was involved with horse sports including hunting and horse racing. He also bred thoroughbreds including the successful racehorse Domax
