Lawrence Wilfred King was born on the 24th of October 1920, in Redruth South Australia. King worked as a carrier before he was enlisted for the Second World War. His sacrifice helped make Australia today. King lived in Kent Town, Norwood Payneham St Peters - South Australiawith his wife Edith. It is not known where he went to school

King enlisted in Volunteer Defence Corp 5th September 1939 part-time in the 9 Docks Operating Company. His responsibilities were ensuring the effective management and operations of military docks, vital to the movement of supplies and equipment during the war. He completed an anti-tank course from 17th July 1941 - 25th Kuly 1941. On the 5th September 1941 he enlisted in the Australian Military Forces full-time as Sergeant. He served twice in Darwin, from 24/11/1941 - 11/8/1942 witnessing the bombing of Darwin by the Japanese and again from 15/3/1944 - 8/10/1945.

He was officially discharged on 6 December 1945, having completed his duties as a Sergeant in the Australian forces.

Tragically, on the 29th of January 1947, King was found hanging in his shed in Kent Town by his wife. He was only 26. A newspaper article stated that he was 'completely normal' the night before his death, sharing his last meal with his family of 4.
