One of four brothers and numerous cousins serving in WWII, Private Lance Auburn Desmond Brine (Service No:SX33759) enlisted in the AIF on 7 August 1944 with 3 Recruit Training Battlaion. Private Brine was attached to 2 Australian Army Medical Corps (AAMC) Training Battalion at Discharge on 28 May 1945.

Youngest of seven, Lance was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1926 to Thomas Alfred Brine (b1888 in Napperby, South Australia) and Edith (Edie) May Kempster (b1888 in Kadina, South Australia). Thomas (a Labourer) and Edie (a Domestic Servant with an infant son) married in 1910 in Thebarton in Adelaide. They lived in Prospect and Adelaide, where Thomas was a Labourer, Motor Driver, Factory Worker and Bag Dealer until his death in 1940.

Lance was working in Adelaide as a Labourer in 1944 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1947 in Adelaide he married Lila Winifred Lee (b1924 in Strathalbyn, South Australia). Lance and Lila settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family. Lance died in 1977 and Lila in 2010.
