With his four brothers and his father, Private Christian Harold Peterson served in WWII, enlisting in the AIF on 6 December 1943 (Service No:SX33312). Private Peterson served with 42nd and 46th Infantry Battalions in Bougainville from 1 April 1944 to 1 May 1946, and was WiA (GSW foot) on 9 July 1945. Private Peterson was attached to 42nd Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 12 August 1946.
Born in Goodwood, Adelaide, South Australia in 1919, Christian was second of five children of Harold Christian Peterson (b1893 in Stirling, Adelaide Hills, South Australia) and Catherine (Kate) Rebecca Gardner (b1894 in Wasleys, South Australia). Harold and Kate - a Factory Worker - married in Hindmarsh in 1912, and settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family and Harold was a Typewriter and Adding Machine Mechanic.
Christian first worked as a Farm Hand in Wilunga, then as a Metal Polisher in Adelaide. He was a Furnace Operator in 1943 when he enlisted in the Army, and worked in Adelaide as a Packer following his Discharge. Christian died in 1992.
