From 'West Coast Sentinel' 3 September 1947

Mrs W. J. Sleep and Mrs C. C. Murray unveiled an Honour Roll in the Penong Hall. Rev. Connell and Pengilly conducted the service. A dance followed the unveiling.
One of the men who didn’t receive a mention on the Honour Roll was Bruce Shillabeer. Bruce lived in the Penong district almost all his life. He was killed by enemy action eight days after Peace was declared. He was deemed ineligible for the Honour Roll because he had enlisted elsewhere. Many Penong people regret that he was not included in this list. His brothers Ron and Melville are returned servicemen.

Mrs Cyril Murray was president of the Honour Roll committee, Sheila Roberts secretary jointly with Beryl Place and other known members were Mrs W. Oats, Mrs M. Beck, Miss Iris Freeman, Mr W. Place and Mr G. Nugent.
