Son of Marion O'Reilly of Moores Quinn's Hotel, Guernsey, England later changed to his brother Felix O'Reilly of the same address.
Address at the time of enlistment was give as C/- Burns Philp & Co. of Bond Street, Sydney, NSW. Marital status at the time of enlistment was given as divorced.
Bertram had previously served in the Territorial Force 3rd County of London Imperial Yeomanry for two years and Colonial Service for two and a half years.
Commenced return to Australia on 7 March 1917 aboard HS Beltana as on duty medical officer disembarking on 12 May 1917
