Son of Katherine DAWSON of 22 Edmund Street, Norwood, SA
Son of the late Driver A.E. DAWSON, of Ellen Street, Preston Lancashire, England who served 18 1/2 years in the Royal Field Artillery (British) and served in the Great War.
Educated at Marist Brothers' Norwood, William played football and cricket and was fond of swimming. In civilian life he was employed at Todd & Co's Engineering Works, Adelaide for about three years and left this position to join up in June 1940. He was a member of the 10th Battalion Militia for 3 years.
