KRANTZ Kenneth David MB BS

1914 – unknown

Kenneth David (Peter) Krantz was born, on 5th December 1914, in North Adelaide, SA. He was the son of David Krantz and Isabel Eva, nee Boas. He was educated at Prince Alfred College and studied medicine at the University of Adelaide, graduating MB BS in 1941. While in his later school years he admitted sky-larking and was convicted, without penalty, in 1934, for throwing an object to the danger of the public. He married Kathleen Brinkworth on 18th April 1941, just after enlisting in the army. She was the daughter of Thomas Roe Brinkworth and Laura May, nee Pellew. They had a son on 11th March 1942 and were to have a daughter and another son later.

Krantz joined the AAMC and was placed on the Reserve of Officers, on 25th March 1941.  He was called up for full-time duty as a captain on 28th October 1941. He was initially allotted to the Camp Hospital at Woodside, SA, before transfer to 8 Loc Sub Area on 13th November 1941.  He was posted to 108 Anti-Tank Regt, on 5th March 1942, and went to NSW on 26th June 1942. He enlisted in the 2/AIF, in Tamworth, NSW on 26th July 1942. He named his wife, as his next of kin; she was living at 8 Alexandra Avenue, Rose Park, SA. Krantz was posted to 2/4th Arm’d Regt on 1st January 1943 followed by a posting to HQ 2 Aust Line Command on 29th October 1943. During early 1944 he had a detachment to a heavy battery unit, in Townsville, and then transferred to 9th FdAmb, on 1st June 1944 and left for Port Moresby PNG that month and was re-allotted for duty to 17th FdAmb.  He was posted to 2/7th AGH on 15th September 1944 and after contracting dysentery was admitted to 2/7th AGH in October.  When he recovered from his dysentery, he was detached to 4 Aust Fd Regt (Jungle Duty) from 30th October 1944 and was sent from Lae to Bougainville, Solomon Islands, on 1st November 1944 and returned on 12th January 1945. He returned to Townsville on leave on 17th March 1945 returning to Lae, PNG on 15th May 1945. He had detachments to 2/7th AGH and 19th FdAmb, from August to December 1945, before returning to South Australian LoC. Krantz had 90 days training leave before his appointment was terminated on 16th April 1946 and placed on the Reserve of Officers in 4 MD.

Following the war, there is little information about Krantz’s civilian practice; his address in 1980 was 2 Simpson Street, Gilberton, SA, and he was a member of the Australian Medical Association. There is a Kathleen Krantz in Centennial Park who died on 29th November 2007. Kenneth David Krantz’s died in South Australia; the date of his death is unknown.
