Kenneth Frederick Cam

Kenneth Frederick Cam (Ken) was born in Hyde Park, South Australia, on 19 April 1915, the third of five children of Arthur Charles Cam and Vera Elizabeth Cam (née Dawson). He spent his childhood in Woodville Park, where his parents moved to start a grocery business, and where he attended Woodville High School.

As a young man, Ken was actively involved in sports, including a trip to Perth to play cricket against a Western Australian team in 1937-38. Prior to WWII, he worked for General Motor Holdens at their Woodville Plant, to which he returned after the war, eventually joining the staff as a foreman in charge of loading.

Ken joined the Citizen Military Forces in December 1941, and then the Australian Imperial Forces in August 1942, until his discharge in January 1946, including a period of service in New Guinea.

Ken married Faith (Fay) Casma Bottroff on 21 June 1944, and bought a property in Kilkenny, where they subsequently had two children, Anthony (Tony) Lewis Cam (b. 13 July 1947) and Philip Arthur Cam (b. 29 August 1948). Tony became an electrical technician with the Electricity Trust of South Australia, and Philip initially an art teacher and then an academic in Philosophy.

Ken was active in the Freemasons Lodge and a member of the RSL. He and Fay sold their family home after retirement and moved to Woodville, where he spent the remainder of his life. Ken died on 14 March 2003 and has his memorial is in Centennial Park Cemetery.
