Biography contributed by Paul Lemar

Born and bred at Greenhills (adjacent) Flaxley, Ron was a farmer, shearer, stone mason and tannery worker. A solid built footballer - he featured prominently in the 1948 A Grade Premiership side. A life long supporter of the Macclesfield Football Club  - he married Winnifred Lemar in 1951 and had 4 children - Brian, Chris, Phillip and a daughter Deidre (who unfortunately died soon after birth).

Along with older brother Walter - Ron joined the 2AIF Armour in 1942. But due to Japans entry into the War, Rons Cavalry unit was not despatched to the Middle East - being retained for Defence of mainland Australia. When it became apparent that a full Armour Division could not be accomodated in the Pacific Theatre  - his Unit was converted to Transport and supplied much of Northern Australia with the munitions to defend.

Ron- trying to enlist for overseas duty, was rejected several times as his brother was already overseas.

After the war, Ron never claimed his War medals, but this rectified in 2013 shortly before his passing, when a very surprised Ron was  presented his Service Medals by the RSL Macclesfield Sub Branch at a Xmas in July function (his family being informed earlier).

Ron had done his duty in WW2, gone where ordered and was willing to embark overseas to fight. Circumstances beyond his control prevented this.

Ron was presented his Service Medals by Mr Lew Dowsett - Life Member of the RSL, who had himself experienced similiar circumstances.

Ron passed away peacefully 16 Nov 2013 soon after the Presentation.
