Leonard Scrymgour was a soldier of the 27th battalion in World War 1. Hhe was born in North Adelaide, South Australia in 1887. Before Leonard enlisted for the army he was a traveling storeman, living on Henley Beach Road in Mile End, South Australia. Leonard’s closest relative to him was his mother Susan Jane Scrymgour.
On the 2nd of August 1915 Leonard enlisted for the army. A after around 2 months of enlisting he embarked on the HMAT Benalla on the 27th of October 1915. He was badly wounded at Pozières in July 1916. Leonard spent just under 4 years in the army before he returned to Australia on the 12th of April 1919. While he was at war his battalion managed to capture 9 artillery pieces, 25 machine guns and 200 prisoners.
He died on the 30th of January 1958 and his body was buried in the AIF, West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide.
