Eric Ronald Dungey was the second child of Clarence Bertram Dungey and Kathleen May (nee Symonds). He was born on 29 March 1915 at Noarlunga, South Australia.
On 20 March 1941 he volunteered in the Australian Military Forces, giving his occupation as ‘Clover Thrashing’, being employed by A Hannaford and Company of Woodville, South Australia. He was given the service number of S10146 and attained the rank of Lance Corporal.
On 6 July 1942 he enlisted in the AMF to service in Australia or abroad. His occupation was given as Labourer , with his service number being SX23574. Eric embarked from Brisbane on the “Duntroon” in August 1944, disembarking at Madung, New Guinea on 2 September 1944. In December he embarked at Madang on the “JS Morton” for Bougainville 1944. He left Bougainville in December 1945 to return to Australia. From August 1944 until December 1945 he served in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands during which time he attained the rank of Corporal in the 2/4th Armoured Regiment. He was discharged on 26 February 1946.
Eric Ronald Dungey did not marry and died on 12 April 2001, aged 86 years. He was buried at The Cemetery on the Hill, Old Noarlunga, South Australia, beside other family members.
