He joined the Ardrossan Sub Branch of the RSL in 1949. He was first elected to the post of Vice President in 195i holding it for the following years, 1952,53,59,62,72,73,74,75,81,82. He held the Presidents position 1964,65,76,79, 83 to 91. He was also a committeeman in 1957 to 59, 1967 to 71. Allan enjoyed attending othe Group 25 dinners on York Penninsular but he also travelled to Gillies Plans and Hampstead for functions. For 25 years he was a member of the Ardrossan Lions Club serving as president for two years. Allan has been a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 26 years. For 30 years he served on the Ardrossan Hospital Board. He spent 6 years on the Ardrossan Kindergarden committee. He had a passion for preserving the Pennisular history and worked with the National Trust in Ardrossan and Maitland. A dedicated Committee man he also served 40 years with Petersville Agriculture Bureau and 20 years with the Progress Association. Allan was a member of the Ardrossan Community Club, Dinhams Trust and the Maitland Show Society. As a sportsman he was the Patron of the Rifle Club 25 years, member of the Football Club, Cricket Club and the Bowls Club. In 1991 he was awarded a LIfe Membership of the RSL for his services to that community.
