Son of Mrs. M EARL and the late James EARL, of Stepney.  Educated at Norwood School, Robert was good at all outdoor sport, principally cricket and baseball.  He was a member of the Adelaide B Baseball Team. Residing at 23 Baliol Street, College Park, Robert was a leaterh worker in civilian life for Swaine & Co., North Terrace Adealide for 7 years, and left this work to join the AIF in April 1941.  He was a member of the St. Bartholomew Boy Scoutes and joined the 27th Militia Scottish Regiment and served for 3 years.
