Norman Charles King, the son of the late Norman and Mabel King, was born in Wattle Flat, South Australia, on the 14th of October, 1923. The man was tall, about six feet, and black-haired, hazel-eyed, and in possession of quite noticeable scars, one under his right arm and the other under his right eye. He was a Methodist and lived at 39 Kitchener Street Kilburn, while working as a shop assistant.
The young Norman took his first step into the Australian Army on July 30, 1942. Norman was promoted to Signalman and transferred to Fortress Signals Milne Bay. After four years of service, he was discharged on June 14, 1946
