Murray Hocking joined the St Peters Branch of the RSL in 1944, he then transfered to Clare in 1946.  He was elected to the positions of committee member 1949,51,52,53,54,57,60,62; Secretary 1955,56,63 to 73.  Any function organised by the RSL he has participated in,  willing to take on responsibilities he has been an assett to the sub branch.  Murray was a great sports person being a member of the Cricket Club, Football Club, Golf Club, Bowling Club, Tennis Club and president of the Clare Swimming club for 2 years.. He was a member of the Clare Welfare Club. He was a charter member of the Clare Lions Club.  Murray was awarded a Life membership of the RSL in 1973
