Eldest of four brothers who served in WWII, Corporal Lawrence Edward Peterson (Service Nos:S29725/SX20783) initially served in the ACMF as a Private - graded Clerk - attached to 108 Reserve Motor Transport Coy (6 August 1940 - 26 July 1942). On 27 July 1942, Private Peterson enlisted in the AIF and was attached to 121 General Transport Coy - graded Cook, re graded Typewriter Mechanic. Promoted to Corporal in 1943, he served with 11 Lines of Communication Stationery Depot in Morotai (12 August 1945 - 14 February 1946), and was Discharged on 25 February 1946.

Born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1917, Lawrence was eldest of five children of Harold Christian Peterson (b1893 in Stirling, Adelaide Hills, South Australia) and Catherine (Kate) Rebecca Gardner (b1894 in Wasleys, South Australia). Harold and Kate (a Factory Worker) married in 1916 in Hindmarsh, and settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family and Harold was a Typewriter Mechanic. Harold served in the ACMF WWII.

Lawrence was a Typewriter Mechanic in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army and, in 1944 in Adelaide he married Gwenneth (Gwen) Tokelove Elder (b1919 in Adelaide, South Australia) - Gwen was a Machinist in Hindmarsh. Following his Discharge in 1946, Lawrence and Gwen lived in Adelaide, where Lawrence died in 1970. Gwen died in 1990.
