Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Elder of two brothers (Thomas and Reginald) who served in WWII, Private Thomas Frank Blythman (Service No:SX20546) enlisted in the AIF on 10 August 1942 with General Details Depot (GDD) - classified Clerk. Marched out to Fremantle Fixed Defence on 6 November 1945, Private Blythman was attached to 3 Australian Army Ordnance Depot at Discharge on 5 November 1945.

Bill was born in Minlaton, South Australia in 1911, eldest of two children of Arthur (Joe) Joseph Herbert Blythman (b1887 at Dashwood Gully via Kangarilla, South Australia) and his first wife Agnes Martha Poole (b1891 in Millicent, Wattle Range, South Australia). Joe and Agnes married in Minlaton in 1910, and were living at Port Vincent in 1916 when Joe enlisted in the AIF - serving from February 1916 to February 1917 (discharged Medically Unfit). Joe worked as a Mason and Bricklayer, and in 1935 in Adelaide, he and Agnes divorced - both remarried. In the early 1940s Joe and his second wife - Vera Agnes Guerrin (b1898 in Hahndorf, South Australia) - settled at McLaren Flat via Morphett Vale, where Joe was a Farmer.

Bill worked in Largs Bay and Blackwood as a Salesman, and in 1936 in Adelaide married Olive (Betty) Elsie Edith McLean (b1910 in Edithburgh, South Australia). Bill and Edith were living in Largs Bay in 1942 when Bill enlisted in the Army, and following his Discharge, the couple settled in Adelaide where Bill worked as a Commercial Traveller for Burns Philp & Coy (Hardware Section). In 1951 the couple moved to Blackwood in Mitcham, where they established Blythman's Fish Shop and Delicatessan, which they operated until 1971. Betty died in 1993 and Bill died in 1997.
