August enlisted as Andrew Korber, joining the 32nd Battalion as a Driver. Prior to departing for service overseas he spent 24 days in Keswick Military Hospital from 21 August 1915 to 13 September. Andrew left Australia on board HMAT Geelong on 18 November and joined the British Expeditionary Force {B.E.F.} on 17 June 1916, before being sent to France on 23 June.
Private Korber was reported missing on 20 July 1916 and was pronounced “killed in action” by a Court of Enquiry held in the field on 12 August 1917, that stated Andrew died in battle at Fleurbaux and has no known grave. A memorial plaque was sent to Andrew’s father, J.H.Korber on 21 January 1923.
