Private Douglas Ross Wall (Service No:SX18481) enlisted in the AIF on 11 May 1942 - graded Driver Mechanic - with 3 Training Battalion. Sapper Wall marched out to 2/15 Field Coy on 13 January 1944, and embarked with his Unit from Townsville on board the David C Shanks for Morotai en route for service in Borneo, where he was attached briefly to 34 Infantry Brigade and then 28 Field Coy. On 11 May 1947 Sapper Wall embarked from Kure, Japan for Sydney on board the Kanimbla, and was attached to 2/15 Field Coy at Discharge on 8 August 1947.

Doug was born at Swan Reach, South Australia in 1921, fifth of six children of Edward (Ted) Wall (b1880 in Mallala, South Australia) and Clara May Rowe (b1887 in Germantown, South Australia). Ted worked as a Mail Contractor in Booborowie before he and Clara married in Bakara in 1903. Ted and Clara settled at Netherleigh via  Swan Reach, where they raised their family and Ted was a Farmer. In the 1930s they moved to Mannum and later Gawler - Ted worked as a Labourer.

Doug was working as a Farm Hand in Gawler in 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge in 1947, Doug settled in Gawler, and worked as a Lineman with the Postmaster Generals Department. In the mid 1950s he married Rhonda Mary Ward (b1935 in Gawler, South Australia). The couple settled in Gawler, where Doug worked as a Lineman until his death in 1983. Rhonda died in 1981.
