Eric was the oldest son of Joseph and Amanda Hansen and was baptised and confirmed in the Myrla Luthern Church. He attended Myrla school, worked on Hope Farm then share farmed in the Wunkar district, later taking up a farm.
He was a keen horseman, and owned, trained and rode a show horse (Goodsport) gaining over 50 prizes and trophies in the hunting section of the Mallee and Riverland agricultural shows.
Her served as a layreader for Myrla Lutheran Church, was chairman of Wunkar hall committee and servied on the Wunkar sports committee.
He enlisted in the 2nd A.I.F. in 1942-1946 where he served with the 2nd 48th in the Middle East, New Guinea and islands as an infantryman and engineer.
He witnessed the death of his mate from a sniper's bullet. He suffered from Malaria and his was experiences.
Eric returned to farming at Wunkar, badly fracturing his arm in a tractor accident. He took up grazing in the Waikerie area, then retired to Adelaide.
