Pte. C. A. Grayson, SX16952. Born April 1st 1905 at Kent Town. Eldest son of Mr and Mrs CE Grayson and brother of Laurence, Marion and Vincent. He enlisted in December 1941 and was a member of 17th Defence and Employment Platoon under command of Lieut. Meldrum. Later the platoon was disbanded and he spent six weeks at Sandy Creek and then finalised his training in the 34th Batt. at Watsonia, Victoria. Sailed for New Guinea in December 1942 and drafted to the 2/12th Battalion, B Coy and on the morning of January 12th 1943 was killed in action at Soputo, the opening of the Sananunda campaign. In cilil life Pte Grayson was employed by the Colonial Mutual Fire Insurance Coy. for 15 years and at the time of enlistment was in charge of the Accident Branch. Took a prominent part in Insurance Clerks' Federation, committeeman for 12 months. Also interested in YMCA work and played football, cricket and basketball for the Association. Of a lovable disposition and died as he had lived a brave and honourable gentleman.
